GIRL HIT BY TRAIN

A young girl playing on the railway tracks was running to escape an oncoming freight train when she was struck and killed. She’d heard the horn sounding and fled with a group of friends, some of whom witnessed the harrowing incident unfold on the rail bridge at Nga¯ruawa¯hia. Emergency services were called to the scene at the Old Taupiri Rd end of the rail bridge in Nga¯ruawa¯hia at 6pm on Sunday.

BANK ROBBER CAUGHT

A man has been arrested in relation to an alleged bank heist at a Hamilton ASB branch. The 28-year-old is facing one charge of robbing the bank of $15,000 while armed with an offensive weapon, namely a BB gun. His arrest came after a man wearing a wig and dark-rimmed glasses entered the ASB Bank at The Base shopping centre around lunchtime last week.

TEENAGED TRIO ARRESTED

A trio of teenagers were tracked to a Nawton, Hamilton, home and arrested after a nearby dairy was robbed on Saturday afternoon. Three males went into the Ellicott Road Dairy with a hammer around 2pm. They then took off in a Blue Mazda which was found dumped in Velma Crescent - 1km from the dairy. The teenagers were aged 13, 15, and 16. The shopkeeper was not injured.
