Spring Run for CanTeen

-

The sound of hooves will be replaced by the sound of Harleys this Saturday when the Harley Hawke’s Bay Motorcycle Club holds its annual fundraiser for CanTeen.

All profits from the 10th anniversary of the Spring Run, held at the Hawke’s Bay Racecourse, will go directly to CanTeen Hawke’s Bay, says organiser Antony Huckle.

“Prior to 2009 we used to combine efforts with Trucking for Life but we felt that a more local approach would benefit the local CanTeen branch so the first Spring Run was conceived,” Antony says.

The Spring Run is all about supporting CanTeen and is open to the wider biker community. Antony says since its inception in 2009, the annual charity ride attracts around 400 social motorcyclists, travelling from as far away as Christchurch.

“This event runs rain or shine and has built up a favourable reputation amongst the riding fraternity — we’ll make a significant donation to the Hawke’s Bay branch.”

Antony says there are plenty of tickets for sale.

“The more support we get the bigger the difference we can make for CanTeen. We’re firm believers in what they do for their members.”

CanTeen has a clear focus on the needs of young people living with cancer, Antony says.

“CanTeen’s foundation was built upon the fundamental belief that young people — through meeting, talking and sharing their experiences — are better able to cope with the uncertainties of living with cancer and anything we can do to support these young people is awesome.”

Friday night is a meet and greet and the gates open for registration at 9am at the Hawke’s Bay Race Course the following day for the Spring Run. “We’ll let everyone mingle and grab a coffee or bacon sandwich prior to leaving for the ride at about 11am. We’ll return to the racecourse later in the afternoon after the ride where everyone tends to catch up with old mates, grab a drink and a bit of dinner — then party on into the night with live music provided this year by the Rocker Covers. ”
