Gracelands celebrates weddings

A swish of silk taffeta, a scent of spring blossoms and a touch of romance filled the air at Gracelands Lifestyle Care and Village last week as residents, families and staff celebrated
weddings. What better way to signal the change of season and welcome spring than a celebration of enduring love, says activities assistant Jules Hamilton. The week began with a bridal exhibition in the main lounge with a display of photographs and wedding dresses spanning the last 100 years.
“The Central Hawke’s Bay Settlers Museum kindly lent us four dresses from their collection, including a stunning cotton broderie anglaise dress from 1911. We were also very fortunate to have staff members bring in their wedding dresses to add to the bridal display, ” Jules says. The celebrations included an ice-cream sundae social while watching classic wedding films and bridal quizzes and games.
“Who doesn’t love a wedding? It’s a day full of love, hope and good wishes.” The festivities culminated in a bridal shower — family and friends gathered and were treated to a video montage of their wedding photographs set to music made especially for the day.
“There were more than a few happy tears shed and the whole week gave the team at Gracelands Lifestyle Care and Village such an wonderful opportunity to spend time reminiscing and connecting residents, families and staff with their shared past.”
