Spring racing brings fashions to the field

- BY LINDA HALL

It’s spring and in Hawke’s Bay that doesn’t just mean daffodils and lambs — it also means racing.

The Hawke’s Bay Racecourse in Hasting comes alive over spring and summer, starting with the Windsor Park Plate last weekend.

Business development manager of Hawke’s Bay Racing Incorporated, Greg Howie, says as the spring sunshine returns, the racing action moves up a notch with the growing popularity of the Bostock New Zealand Spring Racing Carnival.

“There are people from all over New Zealand coming to Hawke’s Bay for our racedays, which is great for us and Hawke’s Bay as a region.”

On October 6, tradition, fashion, style and heart-stopping racing unite in a glorious setting at Hawke’s Bay’s most glamorous day out. The Bostock New Zealand Spring Racing Carnival’s grand finale is the Livamol Classic, Hawke’s Bay’s biggest race day.

You can use a general admission pass for the public stand, Horlicks Lounge with live music with TAB facilities and cash bars.

“You and your friends can also enjoy the Hawaiian Airlines Fashion in the Field Village with live DJ and bar. We have an alcohol-free family zone positioned in front of the public grandstand on the lawn area. Your general admission pass also gives you access to the ZM White House for the ultimate festival experience.

“With New Zealand’s top DJ pumping out live music all day, bars, TAB facilities and catering options to keep you fuelled, the ZM White House is the spot to kick your heels up in style. Located along the home straight, it also keeps you close to the racing action; you’ll be able to catch the races from big screens.”

Guests must be over 18 for the ZM White House. Fashionistas — this is the place to be seen on Livamol Classic. Located trackside and as close to the winning post as you can get, this is where people come to enjoy Livamol Classic in style with some marquee cover for added comfort.”

Package includes premium location, marquee cover next to the winning post, seating and umbrellas up to the trackside fence, live music between races from guest DJ, three beverage tokens and a gourmet selection of street-style food provided by Orton’s.

“The interest in the Livamol Classic, our final day of the Bostock New Zealand Spring Racing Carnival, has far surpassed all previous years. We have increased the capacity in all of our hospitality options this year to match the growing demand.

“We expect to have more than 2500 people in catered hospitality packages, with another 3500 plus guests on course. It is great to see so many people in Hawke’s Bay and from around New Zealand getting behind this event,” Greg says.

There’s the Hawaiian Airlines Fashion in the Field presented by ZM’s night host Georgia. With more than $10,000 worth of prizes up for grabs, this interactive fashion extravaganza is on the calendar of every fashionista in the Bay and New Zealand. Ladies and gentlemen — showcase your racing style in one of five fashionable categories:

“The prizes for this event are incredible with a trip for two to Hawaii, jewellery, suits and dresses, glasses, beauty treatment and much more on offer for the competitors. It is great to have such a loyal group of sponsors who really help us to drive this event. This year we have also added a Vintage category, I am looking forward to seeing what comes out of the closet for this one,” Greg says.
