Hastings Leader

Fringe festival is here in October

- BY HASTINGS BUSINESS ASSOCIATION MANAGER, KELLY NOLAN.

Hastings’ bestest, funnest, most outrageous, challenging, intoxicating, phenomenal festival is just around the corner, and am I excited? You bet I am!

Fringe in the ‘Stings started three years ago with a group of passionate locals banding together to create something really special. In year one Fringe was tiny, in year two Fringe went massive! Year three is just right.

Head over to www.fringeinthestings.co.nz now to check out the full programme and you’ll see that there’s more local content than ever before. It’s Hawke’s Bay, so you’re going to know a friend, or a friend of a friend who is performing. The winner of the NZ Fringe Festival Touring Prize Jon Bennett is back with a trilogy of shows that will blow your socks off. There are cabaret shows, the amazing Anton Wuts is showcasing his original work, there are comedians galore and the Revolutionary Arts Ensemble is back under a new banner after a hugely successful NZ Fringe run. I’m SO excited!

Tickets are on sale now, and here’s the thing. It’s really important that you (yes, you) get out there and support this festival. Because festivals like this are the breeding ground for arts in Hawke’s Bay. If you want your city to be alive and vibrant and full of passionate people then supporting the arts is one of the easiest ways to do that.

When you buy a ticket to Fringe in the ‘Stings you’re supporting local artists, even if you’re not seeing a local show. It’s the mandate of Fringe in the ‘Stings to be an accessible platform for locals to showcase their work. And a successful festival means more chances for our locals to get out there, practice their craft, and show you what they can do.

So take a risk, push your boundaries and buy a ticket or two to a show — they’re all $20 or less. I promise you that you won’t regret it.

Get your tickets now from www.fringeinthestings.co.nz
