Martial arts a big success

- By JO HEATH Coordinator

The Martial Arts Evening on September 8 at the Event Centre was a huge success.

The boxing ring on the floor looked very impressive with the blue and red corners, all local fighters and out of town fighters were amazing to watch and the skills were a credit to individuals and coaches.

If you are interested in martial arts please check out their Facebook page Waihi Community Martial Arts. This will also show some footage of the fights.

■ The Trial Trilogy on the Hauraki Rail Trail was on last Sunday with as little as 9km run or walk to ultra of 100km. This event was also a great success with lots of participants, and records made.

■ The AIMS Games were held in Tauranga on Sunday September 9 to Friday September 14 with over 10,000 year 7 and 8 students national wide participating. Waihi College has been busy fundraising and preparing to go for quite sometime, with various teams playing in basketball, both boys and girls, netball, cheerleading, multisport, BMX and swimming. I’m sure their team and individual experiences were achieved.

■ It’s now time to get your nominations in for the upcoming season of sports awards, for Hauraki/Thames-Coromandel District Sports. Nominations are now open and close Friday September 28, to be held on Tuesday November 20. Go online to the Sport Waikato page, click on awards and choose your nomination category at www.sportwaikato.org.nz/ awards
