WAIHI POLICE REPORT

Monday, September 28

A Paeroa man was arrested at Belmont Rd, Paeroa, and charged with using a document in relation to a victim who lost their wallet on September 27 at Paeroa skate park. The offender used the victim’s credit card to make several purchases and was caught on CCTV surveillance camera.

Tuesday, September 29

A Hikutaia man was arrested at a Wharepoa Rd address for threatening to assault a police officer. Police were called to the address because the man allegedly smashed every window in the house he was residing at. When police arrived on scene they found the man naked and holding the knife, he then threatened the officers. He was also found to be intoxicated which is in breach of his current probation conditions while he is on 24 hour electronic monitoring. He will be appearing in court soon.

Wednesday, September 30

A Waihi woman was arrested at a Tauranga Rd address for a warrant to arrest. She failed to appear at court in relation to a charge of breaching a protection order.

A Kerepehi man was arrested for wilful damage at a family harm incident at Kerepehi Town Rd. The man allegedly smashed a vehicle window while his partner and child were inside.

Thursday, October 1

A Paeroa man presented himself to Paeroa Police Station due to a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear on charges of breaching probation conditions. He was arrested and held in custody for court the same day.

Friday, October 2

The stolen caravan reported last week that was taken from Rotokohu Rd on Saturday, September 26 was recovered by police at a Mataura Rd, Waihi, address. A Waihi man was arrested and charged with burglary. He was also wanted by police for other crimes and has now been charged with multiple offences. The court remanded him in custody.

Waikato Police Impairment Team formerly known as Traffic Alcohol Group set up checkpoints at Waihi and Waihi Beach. Two drunk drivers were processed.

Saturday, October 3

A south-bound vehicle was ran off the road at SH2 Karangahake when another vehicle allegedly crossed the centre line into their path. The vehicle crashed into the rock wall. The driver did not sustain any injury.

Road Policing Message

In the Coromandel area school holiday time means more traffic on the roads. This includes vehicles, cyclists, scooters, skateboards and pedestrians to name a few.

Police know the beach towns are always a risk spot during this time. It seems when some people go on holiday they get complacent and ignore the road rules. Remember the rules that apply in the big cities apply here too.

Some of the more common ‘holiday’ offences we see are riding in the back of towed boats, utes or trailers, failing to wear seatbelts, parking on flush medians, driving on Waihi Beach, not wearing a bicycle safety helmet, operating a cellphone and there’s always the drunk drivers.
