Shoctober now in full swing
A not-so-scary scarecrow holiday competition is in full fright mode down Seddon St.
It’s all part of Waihi Drama Society’s Shoctober Scarecrow Competition this October. The scarecrows — which have been created by society members, schools, Waihi Spinners and Weavers and other creative types — are everywhere with some in the surrounding community as well.
Drama society members decorated the town under the cover of darkness on October 1. The competition was part-promotion, part-holiday fun for people to make a scarecrow and place it in the garden or on your fence, culminating in a fun day at Boyd rd Theatre.
The scarecrows remain on display until October 25 when all involved will take their scarecrows to Boyd Rd Theatre for awards and prizegiving from 12pm. This will be a fun community and open day for all.
Competition organiser Terry King says the competition and fun day will help highlight WDS and show people what they do.
