Sublime seclusion on water’s edge and panoramic scenery

- By Jo Ferris

Given this home’s address, it’s easy to conjure up images of a cottage lane hidden within the countryside. This property goes several steps further, however. For starters, it hides at the end of a small tree-lined lane. Embraced by trees, the garden certainly evokes memories of country lifestyle. It’s what lies in front that makes this property so special: Whangamata’s inner harbour.

It’s a stunning view. Thanks to the elevated position, this home boasts an uncluttered panorama. It sweeps over the water below, across Whangamata’s township and out to the ocean and islands. This really is the best of both worlds. Birdsong and nature imitate the tranquillity of a country bush setting; while sea breezes and ocean aromas punctuate the harmony of this special spot.

It’s a huge site – with a rolling lawn sloping down to link with the water’s edge. Launch the kayaks or boards and paddle off at high tide – the freedom is exquisite. If you prefer a rambling walk, there’s a bush trail that weaves through to the nearby reserve.

A position of this stature deserves a home to match – and this doesn’t disappoint. It’s a home of substance and style – designed around the scenery and entertaining. Given the growing desire to work from home, this home fulfils that aspect brilliantly. A separate wing offers a huge room with multiple uses. A lavish fourth bedroom, home office, home theatre – the choices are endless. The master bedroom above is large as well. It basks in the scenery - a private balcony offering a private spot to sit and contemplate.

Outdoor areas are an integral element of this home. Balconies wrap around the front of each wing to end in a private corner for another bedroom. The alfresco lounge takes centre stage. Sheltered overhead, this is large enough for a dining setting and full lounge suite. A new, gourmet kitchen serves it with ease, while formal dining inside forms a natural link as well. From here, areas extend out from the house to patios and corner nooks.

It’s a home for all seasons. There’s log-fire comfort to warm the mood for formal dining and family relaxation inside. Outdoor settings are in their element as warm days linger into the evening. This home has so many layers to enjoy it all. Another large lounge, a formal entrance connecting each wing with its own cushioned window seating, a heightened sense of space, thanks to gabled ceilings, lots of storage – there are surprises everywhere.

With four-car garaging, carport and extra parking for the boat, this property offers exceptional potential for an exclusive retreat, or business for artists and musicians. Above all, seclusion within nature is its biggest allure. In a word: enchanting.
