Four bedrooms, full site, one back from the beach

- By Jo Ferris

The clamour for a place in the sun at the beach continues to soar. Whiritoa is capturing considerable attention – understandable, looking at its size and enchanting ambience. It’s small, it’s cosy; life revolves around the beach. Simple as that.

First National consultants Chris Scott and Liz Griffin live at Whiritoa. They have a love of the beach life and passionately embrace Whiritoa’s lifestyle - so, it’s probably fair to suggest they might be biased. And why not? Whiritoa epitomises the quintessential kiwi dream of beach living and holiday – long, lazy days; barbecues with friends to a back drop of a native bushclad coastline, hidden bays and that beach on the doorstep.

And if beachfront isn’t possible, then one back is the next best thing. This home has elevated views across the dunes to the sea. It’s a lazy stroll down to the sand – cup of coffee in hand to check the surf each morning and decide what else to do for the rest of the day.

The main attraction with this home is its potential. There’s no question that people are increasingly investing in property – be it a holiday home, a complete change, or simply retiring. Days to sell are shortening, prices are rising and real estate figures clearly support the reality that property is king – particularly the land it sits on.

That’s where this home comes into the equation. As a long-term investment, it offers valuable gain, simply due to its location. As a holiday home it’s perfectly positioned. In fact, spending summer here doing nothing would probably be a great way to get a true feel for the land and what to do with it.

There is an option to remove it and build a dream home from scratch. The footprint is already generous, rooms upstairs making full use of the gabled roof pitch. The house is in need of maintenance, which could be a full renovation inside and out, or a work in progress - doing things in stages.

Four bedrooms cater nicely for family, not to mention offering somewhere to work from home. Searches for four-bedroom homes have increased because of that desire and the upstairs space here is perfect. The master bathroom needs a refit, while downstairs living is lovely. The modern kitchen is spacious and has an island unit for bar-stool chatter. Outdoor flow is great and there’s ample room to expand the outdoor entertainment. A large back garden gives space for tents and playground space for the kids. Use the garage for your boat or car and there is also off-street parking.

In short – potential plus, in one of Coromandel’s most charming spots.
