Monday, February 1

Police were called to a family harm incident at Ayr Street regarding a man and woman fighting. Witnesses alleged the woman punched the man. She left the scene before police arrived and the man refused to cooperate.

Tuesday, February 2

At about 3am two burglars forced entry to the Sushi shop at Wilson Road, Waihi Beach. They stole cash and beverages. Police are investigat­ing and want informatio­n from the community.

There were reports of another burglary at a Seaforth Road property, sometime over the past three days. A laptop computer and a cellphone were stolen. A few hours later the laptop was found pushed through the cat flap of the victim’s door. Police are testing the laptop to identify the offender.

In a burglary at the Waikino Railway Station Cafe´, an offender forced entry to the ticket office and stole property. Police are seeking informatio­n from the public.

Wednesday, February 3

A man claimed to have been assaulted at a Dickey Flat campsite. A rock was thrown at him but he couldn’t identify the offender as it was dark. He believed he was assaulted because of an earlier incident where he reached into another person’s vehicle window and turned their lights off. Police were unable to make sense of the situation and he was sent on his way.

Thursday, February 4

A Waihi man was arrested for disorderly behaviour outside Waihi Beach Hotel. He was allegedly intoxicate­d, twerking and attempting to start a fight with patrons. He has been referred for supported resolution at Waihi Community Resource Centre.

A North Shore, Auckland man was arrested at Monument Rd, Thames for a historic theft and fraud investigat­ion. The man allegedly stole a victim’s handbag at a funeral home viewing and used her credit card a number of times. He has been charged and will appear in court.

Friday, February 5

A Waihi man received a formal warning for breaching a protection order at Waihi College after he allegedly went to the school where a protected person was present. Later, he allegedly smashed a vehicle window belonging to a family member. Police were called to the address and he fled into farmland refusing to cooperate with police.

Saturday, February 6

Police attended a road rage incident at Waitawheta Rd bridge. A driver alleged another vehicle failed to give way at the bridge so they blocked the exit and a confrontat­ion ensued. A vehicle was allegedly kicked and threats were made. The incident was eventually resolved peacefully.

Police were called to a family harm incident at Seaforth Rd. A man had allegedly failed to return custody of a child to their mother. Witnesses reported a woman chasing after a man telling him to return her baby. Police found the man and child a short time later, travelling in a vehicle toward Waihi. He was detained and served with a six-day police safety order and the child was returned to its mother.

A Waihi Beach man was seriously assaulted after leaving Waihi Beach Hotel. He was allegedly king hit with a punch to the back of his head, knocking him down, while walking with friends from the pub. The suspects were described as three male Maori. Police are seeking informatio­n from the public.

“Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.” Police have a similar modern quote we use “If you see something, do something”. If you see a crime being committed, a person being victimised, suspect something just isn’t right or there is potential for theft, damage or injury, don’t delay, call police on 111 so we can intervene and prevent victimisat­ion as well as hold offenders to account.
