When searching for a nature escape, yet wanting to be close to a township, preferably by the beach, Pauanui’s Lakes Resort meets all targets. The road to Pauanui has long been well trod by people from Waikato and Auckland heading to their holiday homes. Meandering around the main route into Pauanui, Lakes Resort is easy to miss. There’s no major indication this estate even exists really. Once inside this nature sanctuary however, Lakes Resort reveals a carefully planned community built around a championship golf course.

In truth, there’s more here than golf. As its name suggests, the estate is dotted with lakes, wetlands and nature trails - all of it embraced by rugged bush-clad hills. While golf is a key element, Lakes Resort also has tennis courts, a gym and recreation centre complete with an open swimming pool and covered lap pool.

Because it’s essentially a gated community with certain requirements, all the homes must meet a certain standard to maintain the estate’s integrity. Designed and built by David Reid Homes, this is near new and still offers the balance of a 10-year Master Build Guarantee.

The home tucks within a small enclave well into the estate - near a lake, tennis courts and the recreation centre with its two swimming pools. All just a mere stroll from this home.

Designed around the sun, the house bathes in natural light and enjoys a leafy outlook. Contemporary styling follows today’s trend for practical flooring in the family hub. In this case it’s polished concrete – a smart move that harnesses the sun’s solar warmth. The look continues in both bathrooms to maintain the continuity, while carpet features elsewhere.

The theme is understated but classic – attention to finish and quality appliances. It also offers the freedom to personalise the home accordingly with the choice to dress the windows - either in blinds or plush drapes or a mix of both. Dining and family space is generous and slips outside to the sun - further scope here to expand the outdoor areas and landscape an oasis that will enclose the home in its own space.

Smart kitchen design keeps units tidy with bulkheads; eliminating the messy dust trap and the rangehood neatly hidden as well. The island unit is also smart – a completely free counter for clean bar-stool dining, casual catchups and a la carte serving. Gas-fire comfort in the lounge continues the contemporary theme. And with four bedrooms, this place meets that growing need for an office.

Around five minutes’ drive to Pauanui and all that it has to offer, this property offers the choice for a permanent residence, holiday escape or rental investment – previous rental being $500 a week. It’s nice to have the options.
