Fault starts car fire

A mechanical fault caused a car fire in Hastings yesterday evening. One appliance from Hastings Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to the blaze in a vehicle on the side of Kenilworth Rd, Mayfair, at 5.45pm. The duty officer said the fire was not suspicious and was thought to be a mechanical fault. “It was well involved when we got there so the car is a bit of write-off.” There was no one in the vehicle when emergency services arrived and no one was injured. Firefighters spent about 20 minutes dousing the flames.
