● Some nasty texts. Who is this “majority of Kiwis”? Irish and Scottish names are not my heritage. Stop trying to stomp out the Ma¯ori culture, it’s not hurting you. I’m a very white-looking NZer with a Ma¯ori mother. Tired of all the ignorant people in this country.

● Now that Ma¯ori Language Week is over, what was its purpose?

● Could Saturday’s texter please explain why the PM’s last trip to a Pacific Island was “a great investment”?

● I can’t think why Port Ahuriri School would want to sell alcohol to parents who are likely to drive their children home. JMC

● Obviously the texter who thinks the DHB has nothing better to do hasn’t lost anyone to alcohol. Ways to do this are drink-driving, liver and heart disease, to name only three.

● Hey, the dude who seems angry with the police: so they are power mad with a toxic culture? You must be breaking the law an awful lot to have that opinion. The old story: do the crime, do the time, and don’t speed.

● Our local police do a great job. We should support them. So much of their time is taken up by users of P and synthetic drugs. They must find it hard to do their normal policing duties.

● Right on cue. Twelve months out from an election and Neil Kirton comes out of hibernation, making erroneous populist claims.

● To all the people who walk their dogs up Tironui Drive and Sugar Loaf: please clean up after them. It will make my walk more enjoyable.

● According to the council it’s not okay to have a fireplace that causes smoke but it is okay to be an orchardist and smoke out half of Hastings. Double standards. EF

● Wyn Drabble: always entertaining and spot on with your topics. Your command of the language is great to see and makes me realise I am not the only one who notices how correct grammar is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Thanks for making me see the funny side. Grammatically Correct Gran

● Hope SBW has had time to learn the national anthem while out of action.

● Taradale Rd: NCC, whatever are you thinking narrowing up the road? Do you even know what a turning path diagram is? Can the truck-and-trailers accessing the supermarket and service station and the buses get through? Is Napier becoming a city where NCC does’t want vehicular traffic on the roads?

Thank you for texting in your views. Note: owing to the anonymous nature of texts we will not publish unfair personal attacks in this column. — Ed
