● Re the Tuesday texter comparing the previous government’s borrowing with this Government . . . where do you think the billions came from for Treaty settlements and earthquake damage, all in a time of global recession?

● Jacinda Ardern should hang her head in shame — $80,000 to ferry Neve and nothing for sick Abby Hartley to come home.

● Simon Bridges blasts Jacinda Ardern’s speech as “desperate”. There’s a laugh, he’s the most desperate politician in the country. Tick, tock, do you hear the clock ticking for you, Simon? You’re on borrowed time.

● Ugly stuff for broadcaster and one-time immigrant Heather du Plessis-Allan to tell her listeners: “The Pacific Islands don’t matter. They are nothing but leeches on us.” Just smacks of Trump-type rabble rousing. I’d have hoped that after quitting South Africa for a life in NZ she’d have ended up with more understanding views than that.

● Why are there no men’s urinals in the new toilet block in Anderson Park? Men are now forced to urinate in the women’s toilets that have now been renamed unisex toilets. Don’t expect men to put the seat down, it’s not in our DNA.

● To all who took part in the Blossom Festival parade, a huge thank you. It was an outstanding success. After years of not going, as it became more commercial, I was delighted it had returned to its original format — celebrating spring.

● Australian strawberries with needles. That’s worse than the underarm — or maybe not. ER ● Why the heck are we shoving the Ma¯ori language down everyone’s throats when half the people can’t even speak English? HW ● To help save the kereru, stop all those people eating them — or do we have to chip them like the cats?

● I agree with ARG. We travelled from Hastings to Hamilton some months ago and noticed the poor condition of our main highway. We did the same trip this week but nothing’s changed. What a disgrace for all the tourists. Though we build new roads, the existing roads go to the pack. John Childs ● Maybe the Mission and Church Road wineries should be advised by the Hawke’s Bay DHB not to sell wine at their concerts, as kids go, too?
