Life in the slow lane
Regarding John Thompson’s letter a while back criticising Stuart Nash — I am sure this is premature. Stuart is probably well down the track now to announcing a major benefit for HB.
April 22, 2015 (historical reminder): While in opposition, Mr Nash said if he was in government he would love to say to US electric car maker Tesla: “We’re going to buy 20,000 cars a year, set up a factory in New Zealand and we’ll build them and we’ll drive them.”
Well he is in Government now but sadly the potential money for such a project . . . is probably all gone. Unless of course — Shane Jones picks it up and a manufacturing plant gets located in Northland instead.
We may now be missing out on (funding) much needed passing lanes between Napier and Hastings — for our joke of a so-called ‘expressway’. Also worth remembering (front page news), Helen Clark attended the opening of our expressway . . . and was reported to have knocked on her driver’s window asking — “can’t we go faster”. Seems there was a slow-poke ahead travelling around 70km/h.
Yes this was the same PM who claimed the following year during the ‘Motorcade’ debacle (average speed at one point 152km/h), that as she was always working in the back seat — “had no idea what speed they were travelling at”. As our local MP in Government, perhaps Mr Nash can advise if it’s going to be — ‘Life in the Fast (or Slow) Lane’ for HB road users . . . and how is the Tesla proposal working out ? Ian Brown Hastings
