PARRIS’ FASHION STATEMENT

-

Kiwi hip-hop dancer to the stars Parris Goebel is following in the foot-steps of one of her music icons — the “First Lady of Pop” and original “Material Girl” Madonna.

Goebel’s dream has always been to work with Madonna — with her previous choreography and dance credits including the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Janet Jackson, Justin

Bieber and Rihanna. As she waits for the hoped-for call from Madge, Goebel is already emulating her idol as a fashion trend-setter.

Five weeks ago pictures of Goebel wearing a Pasifika-inspired dress on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards in New York went global and the coverage has led to a business boom for its creater, Kiwi-born, Sydney-based Priscilla Ale. Ale, director and founder of E’vana Couture, said she had been fielding inquiries from around the world from first-time customers wanting to emulate Goebel’s look.

“It’s been so crazy. I just can’t believe it,” she said.

Ale, 35, said one of her cousins living in Auckland, Vaivasa

Fatialofa — the daughter of the late Manu Samoa great, Peter

Fatialofa, happened to be best friends with Goebel’s sister Kendal.

It is understood the choreographer had decided early on that she wanted to wear a Pacific dress to the awards night and Kendal had quickly recommended E’vana Couture.

This week Goebel released her second single FIYAH.
