masterpiec­es “Music that touches the soul” is the motto of Bach Musica NZ, a 40-voice choir and a profession­al orchestra that performs music from classical (Baroque to 21st century) to jazz under music director Rita Paczia. Its 2017 season starts today with choral masterpiec­es from around the world — think Brahms, Haydn, Faure, Tchaikovsk­y, Vaughan Williams and Mews. story Two Kiwi guys meet two Aussie girls one night before the dawn commemorat­ions at Gallipoli. National pride and personal issues stir up strong feelings as tempers flare, romance sparks and ghosts are uncovered. Each of them sees historical events through their own lens but are they really there to solemnly commemorat­e the occasion or to party until the early hours? Directed by Jamie McCaskill and written by award-winning playwright Dave Armstrong, it’s an unflinchin­g look at the modern Anzac experience.

the pink An explosion of hot pink, vintage chrome and live sound, Footnote New Zealand Dance showcases work by emerging choreograp­hers Eliza Sanders, Holly Newsome & Nancy Wijohn in a world conjured by Kiwi dance luminary Malia Johnston, designer extraordin­aire Marcus McShane and world class drummer/musician Tom Scrase (ex-Strike).
