2Classy classical
Amalia Hall is an award-winning New Zealand violinist who performs around the world; pianist Christopher Park has been named a ‘Rising Star’ by the European Concert Hall Organisation. Now they’re in town for a recital of sonatas by Mozart, Grieg and Brahams. Violin/Piano Recital, Auckland University Music Theatre, Thursday.
3Musical feast
Forget the Easter chocolate. Instead, feed your soul with music at the annual Waiheke International Jazz Festival. It brings 170 local and international musicians to the Hauraki Gulf island for the daytime jazz-about, evening concert series and late-night supper club. Dave Dobbyn and his all-star band headline the Good Friday Groove at the Rangihoua Olive Estate. The Waiheke International Jazz Festival, various venues from Good Friday to Easter Monday.
4Colourful theatre
The first big musical of the year arrives in Auckland this week and it’s the joyous re-telling of the biblical story of Joseph, his 11 scheming brothers and his coat of many colours. A much-loved family show, there’s a kaleidoscope of catchy songs and colourful dance numbers in various musical styles from rock ’ n’ roll to country and western, French ballad, calypso and jazz.
