Moving image, photograph­y and painting with a sculptural edge feature in an exhibition by noted internatio­nal and New Zealand artists Stephen Bambury, Los Carpintero­s, Jennifer French, Anthony McCall, Kazu Nakagawa, Marie Shannon and Chris Corson-Scott. 2Classy classical

Amalia Hall is an award-winning New Zealand violinist who performs around the world; pianist Christophe­r Park has been named a ‘Rising Star’ by the European Concert Hall Organisati­on. Now they’re in town for a recital of sonatas by Mozart, Grieg and Brahams. Violin/Piano Recital, Auckland University Music Theatre, Thursday.

3Musical feast

Forget the Easter chocolate. Instead, feed your soul with music at the annual Waiheke Internatio­nal Jazz Festival. It brings 170 local and internatio­nal musicians to the Hauraki Gulf island for the daytime jazz-about, evening concert series and late-night supper club. Dave Dobbyn and his all-star band headline the Good Friday Groove at the Rangihoua Olive Estate. The Waiheke Internatio­nal Jazz Festival, various venues from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

4Colourful theatre

The first big musical of the year arrives in Auckland this week and it’s the joyous re-telling of the biblical story of Joseph, his 11 scheming brothers and his coat of many colours. A much-loved family show, there’s a kaleidosco­pe of catchy songs and colourful dance numbers in various musical styles from rock ’ n’ roll to country and western, French ballad, calypso and jazz. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolo­r Dreamcoat, Civic Theatre, Saturday-April 30.
