Black Ferns cruise into quarters
New Zealand won all three games at the new Kitakyushu sevens tournament in Japan yesterday to top their pool and set up a quarter-final against England today. The Black Ferns began the day by romping to a 31-0 win over Japan, scoring five tries to leave the local fans with little to cheer about in their first taste of the sevens experience. The Kiwi side then faced a much tougher test in their second game against France, with Tyla Nathan-Wong crossing for their winning try on the last play of the game. New Zealand had fallen behind 14-7 before Niall Williams scored her second of the match, setting the stage for Nathan-Wong's late heroics. The Black Ferns completed pool play with a 22-7 win over Russia last night, with Portia Woodman scoring two of New Zealand’s four tries.
