DIRTY ROTTEN THESPIANS
There’s a new motorcycle gang in town, but odds on they won’t be troubling the boys in blue. Members of the Dirty Rotten Thespians Motorcycle Club are a who’s who of our TV, film and theatre world.
Wentworth’s Robbie Magasiva is president of the chapter, with 800 Words actor Peter Elliott as vice-president.
Other bikies include Danielle Cormack, Jared Turner, Pua Magasiva,
Oliver Driver, Ben Barrington, Amber Rose, Edwin Wright and Fasitua Amosa. In all, the club has a dozen official members to date.
Elliott’s daughter Lucy is an honorary member and drives the safety car behind the club’s road trips. She also designed the club’s logo, which is a subtle note to Hamlet.
“With many of us having young families, forming a motorcycle club is a way for us all to get out and hit the road once a month, it is a great way of socialising. Some people might surf, we ride,” Turner told Spy.
“We welcome friends to join us on road trips, but becoming a fully patched member is more selective and we have a special initiation, which involves reading a certain verse of Hamlet aloud in public,” added the former Almighty Johnsons star.
Ponsonby Rd has been the most public place where the bikies have initiated a member. The bikes include Harley Davidsons, Triumphs and Kawasakis.
The club’s favourite route is Auckland to Raglan, and they recently rode in support of Paw Justice animal charity.
“Annually we also ride the Gentlemans’ Ride. In
2016, more than 56,000 smartly-dressed gentlefolk in 500 cities from 90 countries straddled the saddles of their classic and vintage motorcycles to raise awareness and help fund prostate cancer research and suicide prevention. We are looking forward to highlighting the cause this September,” said Turner, who heads to Sydney tomorrow to film the second season of The Second Daughter.
While Sydney-side, Turner will catch up with Cormack, a Harley Davidson rider, whose passion for the open road rivals her passion for acting. “When I catch up with Danielle, we will be recruiting in Sydney, there are a number of expat Kiwi thespians we have in mind for some public reciting and taking on some famous Aussie roads,” said Turner.
