IS IT TOO LATE TO CHANGE MY MIND?

The Bachelor Three, Sunday 7pm Several weeks ago, this writer mused about whether or not it was okay, as a good feminist, to let your daughter watch The Bachelor, and said yes it was.

This writer was wrong, wrong, wrong. Do not let your daughters watch this show, not after the appalling misogyny of making “the girls” see who can withstand an ice-bath the longest in order to get some “one-on-one” time with Zac. Tonight, he meets the families of the remaining three. Let’s hope he gets a good dunking of his own.

DO THE RIGHT THING

Guerrilla

Soho, Sunday, 8.35pm Idris Elba grew up in London and knows only too well what it’s like to be the victim of racism. In this drama about racial clashes and inequality in 1970s London, it stars Elba as a newly released prisoner who goes on to form an underground cell with a politically active couple. It’s penned by John Ridley, who wrote 12 Years a Slave, who might know more than a thing or two on the topic.

WHEN YOU DON’T REALLY LIKE YOUR COUSINS

Hyde and Seek

Three, Monday, 8.35pm

New Zealand screenwriter Rachel Lang

(Outrageous Fortune, Filthy Rich), is possibly putting it politely when she describes our Aussie neighbours as being “paranoid” on the topic of immigration. This new eight-part thriller melds identity politics, murder and fraud, and stars Matt Nable and Zoe Ventoura.

POLITICS IN THE PUB

Back Benches

Prime, Wednesday, 9.35pm

It’s hard to see the premise behind this show — ask various low-profile politicians to debate the issues of the day in a pub with a sometimes rowdy studio audience — flying anywhere but here. In its 10th year, Back Benches returns to our screens tonight, warming up the public images of our elected representatives before their big test in September.
