ART FOR EDUCATION: Anna Marshall is a 19-year-old graphic design student who’s persuaded a number of emerging artists to donate work to raise money for girls’ education in places where this basic human right isn’t being met. The show features work from artists such as Adam Portraitur­e Award winner Henry Christian-Slane, sculptor Mark Rayner and illustrato­r Toni Gill. It opens with drinks and jazz, sponsored by Brothers Beer and Little Bite Creations, giving visitors the chance to socialise while checking out the art. Art for Education, Mt Eden Village Centre, June 30-July2.

KISS THE SKY: Contempora­ry dance fans will be high-tailing it across the harbour bridge to see the New Zealand Dance Company’s latest triple bill. In fact, if you’re not a dance fan however are curious about the art form, this is show to see. NZDC has a stellar reputation for extraordin­ary and masterful work and have worked with three choreograp­her on the theme of the seasons, the southern sky and ideas of death and rebirth to coincide with Matariki. Kiss the Sky, Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna, Thursday- Saturday. FILM SCORE: Devonport’s beautifull­y historic cinema The Vic sometimes doubles as a live music venue. This week its lush acoustics will be exhibited when Tiny Ruins performs. Lead by singersong­writer Hollie Fullbrook, Tiny Ruins performs with a full band as part of their nationwide winter tour showcasing material from their upcoming third album. Tiny Ruin’s warm, soothing folk should provide the perfect opportunit­y to while away the winter blues at one of Auckland’s most spellbindi­ng venues. WATER MUSIC: To kick off this weekend’s Matariki on the Waterfront festival at Silo Park, local electronic/trip-hop quartet SoccerPrac­tise play a special show inside a silo. SoccerPrac­tise is Known for its modern takes on traditiona­l Maori waiata and punters can expect to hear these alongside other songs in their repertoire — but arrive early; there are only 50 spots inside the silo. The interiors will be brought to life by lighting designer Angus Muir and there’ll be street food and drink available all night. SoccerPrac­tise, Silo Park, Friday 5pm-10pm, with the band at 7.30pm.
