THE AUCKLAND VINTAGE TEXTILE FAIR

-

This week Kiwi star Frankie Adams and fellow actor and boyfriend Vinnie Bennett enjoyed the full solar eclipse together in Toronto, where Adams is filming the third series of her hit show

Expanse. The

Bennett, who first attracted attention as a personal trainer on first season, is flying into Adams’ international orbit. He’s been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Rising Stars talent programme because of his work in Kiwi Nic Gorman’s debut feature

which is highly anticipated at the festival next week.

The Rising Stars programme runs alongside the festival and previously has selected only Canadian actors. This year, however, it hothouses four Canadians and four international actors.

“It’s a huge honour. As a Rising Star at TIFF this year I get the chance to meet and mingle with some of the best industry professionals and creatives from all over the world,” Bennett, 24, told Spy. “Truly a priceless opportunity for any actor looking to take their talents to the world stage.”

In he plays Pete, who arrives on a subantarctic island as the new caretaker for the only inhabitants — scientist couple, Glenn (Mark Mitchinson) and Sarah (Sophie Henderson).

Bennett has been relishing time with Adams in Toronto and has recently sealed his international future with his New Zealand agent Imogen Johnson securing him representation with Hollywood management company Primary Wave Entertainment, which has named the Kiwi hunk the next Tom Hardy.

“I think Tom is a fantastic performer who has been extremely wise with the roles he’s chosen to take up,” Bennett says. “It’s hard to turn down any role, especially in an industry as small as ours in NZ — even more so when you’re broke — but you look at careers like Tom Hardy’s, who would’ve surely turned down multiple, well-paying gigs in order to save himself for the roles he really wanted, roles that contribute to a more carefully crafted body of work and that’s definitely a direction I’d like to take my career.”

Primary Wave’s other clients include actor/producer/director

Scott Foley (Scandal, Greys Anatomy, Felicity), (Scrubs Ray Donovan), Pimp My

Donald hiphop

Faison and megastar and host of MTV’s

Xzibit (who’s about to guest star in and Australian actor Luke Pegler

Ride Empire) (Hacksaw Ridge).

Bennett is on the audition wheel with several big projects. He must feel good about one of them, as he told us to watch this space for his next big announcement. For the very best Fashion Week coverage visit: viva.co.nz/NZFW
