Kiwifruit face-off for Styles

A British supermarket has banned kiwifruit sales to under-25-yearolds in an attempt to stop fans throwing them at pop star Harry Styles.

Fans have been throwing pieces of the fruit at the former One Direction singer as he performs his latest song, Kiwi, rumoured to be about his former relationship with New Zealand model Georgia Fowler.

Styles was left red-faced after tripping on a piece of kiwifruit thrown onstage on Monday.

Then on Friday he suffered another embarrassing tumble — apparently as a result of the offending fruit — at an energetic performance of Kiwi to a 3500 strong-crowd in Manchester.

A Manchester branch of supermarket chain Asda responded by banning sales of kiwifruit to under25s ahead of his Wednesday night gig. “We know our customers love Harry Styles and we feel it’s our duty to protect a fellow Mancunian from any ‘bad kiwis’ amongst us,” said an Asda spokesperson.

“We’d hate to see a repeat of the mishap this evening, so to avoid any slippery situations, we feel this is a necessary measure.”

Styles told the Friday night audience: “You may have seen me fall earlier during this song. It appeared to be a kiwi. That was the culprit, some green seedy mush,” he added, before joking: “Oh look there’s another! This could end up being a problem.”

Continuing with the playful theme, he then teased the crowd, asking: “Did anyone else bring fruit? Shame on you!”

The song Kiwi, on his debut solo album, led many to speculate Styles has a secret New Zealand baby. It features a chorus with the lyrics: “I’m having your baby, it’s none of your business.”

Fowler and Styles reportedly dated, leading many to speculate the song was about her.

But the Auckland model told Australian television this week it was “highly unlikely”, because she hadn’t had his baby.
