A NIGHT ON THE TOWN

- Dionne Christian and George Fenwick

BLACKBIRD FLIES: One of the country’s most progressive and exciting chamber orchestras takes on the inimitable Icelandic pop artist Bjork. Blackbird Ensemble serves up an audio feast of Bjork’s finest songs across the decades, re-imagining muchloved classics through to her more recent releases. The line-up includes electroindie-pop artist Sarah Belkner, enchanting singer-songwriter Anna Coddington, emerging soulful star Teeks and returning Blackbird favourite the ethereal Jessie Cassin alongside a band of strings, brass, woodwind, keys and percussion. Bjork: All is full of love, Rangatira at Q Theatre, Wednesday-Saturday.

MEET MIRANDA: YouTube sensation Miranda Sings is the wacky viral character played by Colleen Ballinger, an actress, comedian and singer, and this week New Zealand fans can see her — and her character — on stage. Rising from a niche YouTube channel to an international sensation with her own Netflix show, Miranda Sings has won fans around the world for her hilariously bizarre videos. Ballinger is known for her excellent performances, in which she slips in and out of character with ease, so punters can expect a bizarre and unpredictable night.

Miranda Sings, Civic Theatre, Wednesday.

SAME BUT DIFFERENT: It’s absolutely the story you remember from childhood but it’s different. It’s not an orchestra; it’s an indie band and it’s not a forest; it’s Auckland’s vibrant CBD. Don’t expect horns because they’ll be electric guitars instead. Silo Theatre remixes one of the world’s most loved orchestral fairy tales and places famed composer Prokofiev's lupine legend in the here and now for theatre — and film — lovers of all ages. Peter and the

Wolf, Herald Theatre, Thursday-Saturday, December 9.

Again. Supporting Williams at the RSA will be Merk, a touring member of Fazerdaze, who released his own acclaimed album

Swordfish in October last year. Marlon
