THE GAL BEHIND GUILDFORD’S SMILE
The life of former All Black Zac Guildford has taken positive leaps and bounds over the past year and we think his girlfriend, lawyer Huia Rudi, has played a big part in giving the once-troubled rugby player the confidence to chase his dreams.
Guildford, 29, has been dating Rudi for several months and the Hamilton-based couple definitely bring the best out in each other.
Rudi studied law at Waikato University and was a star player in the National Tertiary Rugby Sevens Championships in 2016. Her parents are both emergency service workers in Hamilton.
As Mr and Mrs McCaw have shown us, the couple who train together, stay together and that dedication to fitness is a big thing in Guildford and Rudi’s relationship. The pair spent a lovely Christmas together and have enjoyed a summer full of success.
In February the Herald on Sunday spoke with a happy Guildford about his new job as a teaching aide for two students with learning disabilities, at Hamilton’s Endeavour School.
“It’s a pretty rewarding job. I get to deal with kids who maybe haven’t had the best start to life, they just need a bit of support and that’s my role. It’s actually a pretty cool job.”
Earlier this month the winger made headlines after taking up a oneyear deal with French second division club side Nevers. He joins them in May and has the option of a second year.
Guildford went shy on Spy about Rudi joining him in France, but having a fantastic cheerleader and partner is bound to help him settle as he once again chases his international rugby career.
