Baldwin in parking-rage clash
Actor Alec Baldwin was arrested yesterday and charged with assault and harassment after allegedly striking a man in the face during a dispute over a parking spot outside his New York City home.
Police said the actor claimed a family member was holding the spot for him as he tried to park his black Cadillac Escalade, when a man in a black Saab took it.
Police said the men argued and pushed before Baldwin, 60, allegedly hit the driver. The man was unsure whether it was a punch or a slap.
The driver, 49, was taken to a hospital with jaw pain and redness in the neck area.
Baldwin was released from a nearby precinct in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighbourhood about two hours after the incident. He was ordered to appear in court November 26.
Baldwin walked silently past reporters and photographers to a waiting SUV yesterday. His publicist did not immediately respond to a message requesting comment.
Baldwin portrays Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live and recently started a talk show on ABC. Asked about the arrest, Trump said: “I wish him luck.”
Baldwin’s scrapes with the law include a 1995 arrest for allegedly slugging a paparazzi in Los Angeles, one of several such run-ins.
As well, the actor was booted off an American Airlines flight in 2011 after allegedly clashing with a flight attendant.
