Big Pacific Prime, 7:30pm Sunday

That title is no lie — the Pacific Ocean really is quite big. Just how big and diverse becomes clear as you watch this spectacular documentary series, produced by Natural History New Zealand and narrated by Daniel Dae Kim (Jin from Lost). The first episode takes us to an island off the coast of China to meet some very deadly, very cool pit vipers, before returning a bit closer to home to hang out for a while on White Island. Nature documentary lovers, it’s time to assemble in front of the biggest, most hi-def television you can find.

Condor SoHo, 8:30pm Wednesday

If you were to search the words "paranoid" + "thriller" in TV reviews over the past five years, the usage graph would surely be headed through the roof. The latest subject of these descriptors is a modern-day adaptation of the 1970s novel Six Days of the Condor (originally made into the movie Three Days of the Condor) called, simply, Condor, starring Max Irons (son of Jeremy) as Joe Turner, a low-level CIA analyst on the run after accidentally uncovering a deadly secret. Good cast — William Hurt plays Joe’s uncle — and gripping action make it worth a look, even if it does all sound a bit familiar.

Das Boot TVNZ OnDemand

Hard to think about Das Boot (German for "the boat") without thinking of that episode of Peep Show where Mark tries to make Sophie watch the classic 1981 film version, all two and a half hours of it. This new TV adaptation — actually more like a sequel, taking place after the events of the film — might look a bit more manageable, but it’s still probably a good idea to ask any potential love interests how they feel about grim submarine-based World War II dramas before you pop on the first episode.
