KITCHEN DAY
HOME READERS TAKE AN EXCLUSIVE TOUR OF THE CITY’S BEST KITCHEN SHOWROOMS.
Our annual kitchen day kicked off in September at the Bauer Media offices with a coffee from Nespresso, before heading to the Avondale showroom of Blum, the Austrian cabinetry hardware manufacturer known for ingenious storage solutions including the Space Tower pantry unit, which transforms akward pantries into efficient storage spaces.
After morning tea and a presentation by designer Celia Visser, it was off to Kitchens by Design in Newmarket, where designer Shane George showed off some recent projects, including the Arthur Street Kitchen which you’ll see featured in on our kitchen pages this issue.
From there, it was a short drive to the showroom of IMO in Parnell – a former warehouse, all soaring white steel beams and brick. It was the perfect spot for lunch with Fisher & Paykel and a particularly informative presentation by senior designer and kitchen tools content manager Simone Stephens about the changing needs of kitchens, and how to integrate that into design.
The afternoon sessions included a presentation at Kouzina in Newmarket by Nicky Duggan from Evolution of Surfaces – the importers of Corian in New Zealand – before the day finished up at Studio Italia with a talk on the latest trends by designer Joanna Hoeft (check out her own beautiful kitchen in our kitchen pages) and a well-deserved drink in one of their sleek kitchens.
It was a wonderfully informative day for the 50 or so attendees, all of whom came away with fresh thinking on an area that changes constantly – keep an eye out for our next kitchen day, scheduled for winter next year.
