House and garden

If ever a home was positioned for sun, it’s this Tamahere masterpiece.

Owners and siblings Kate, Nick and Peter Trebilcock set the scene: “Our mother designed the house, and we have strong memories of her creating a scale model of the house and placing it in the sun at different directions to assess the sunlight throughout the day. It’s north facing, so is always so light, even on dull Waikato foggy days. Every room has a view of the gardens or paddocks. There are beautiful mature trees and the amazing sunrises and sunsets.”

Nestled on arguably Tamahere’s prettiest street, lined with namesake cherry trees, 65 Cherry Lane has been home to the family for 20 years. Now you have the golden opportunity to secure this enviable address in a tightly-held pocket of Tamahere.

This secluded slice of paradise has been home base to Kate, Nick and Peter when they were at university, travelling, and coming back to New Zealand, and home to their Auntie Debbie for the past 18 years.

Sitting pretty among park-like gardens featuring an abundance of mature trees, the sophisticated residence connects beautifully with its natural surroundings.

Guests are often surprised to realise just how extensive the home, gardens and property are. With detailed specifications throughout and superb attention to detail, the home is at once elegant and incredibly welcoming.

Inside, soaring ceilings create a wonderful sense of light, which bounces beautifully off matai flooring. At night, feature lighting adds to the magic.

Three living zones allow plenty of room for retreating and coming together. The hub of the home is an open-plan kitchen, dining and coming-together space, while a formal lounge and family room extend your options. Multiple sets of doors spill out onto the large terrace and professionally landscaped grounds, making it ideal for entertaining on any scale.

Tucked away in its own wing, the master retreat allows busy parents plenty of privacy. The east wing houses an office, three bedrooms, serviced by a family bathroom, all with tranquil garden outlooks.

The family says it’s a flexible home, having accommodated everyone from teens, to elderly parents, adults and now grandchildren. All the family and friends have been able to stay when they visit, the farm barn has penty of options with storage space and lean-to which has been used to house spillover guests.

“We’ve had great family events and parties, including 18th and 85th birthdays, engagements, a wedding and, regardless of the time of year, the house changes and expands. In recent years it’s been lovely to see the grandchildren enjoying the outdoor area on their scooters and bikes and the excellent layout of the house means they can be playing outside and we can keep a watchful eye on them from anywhere in the living areas and kitchen. The backyard has been home to some epic backyard cricket games,” Debbie says.

With 5,000 square metres of land and two sizeable paddocks, there’s plenty of scope for adding your stamp. In zone for Tamahere and Hillcrest schooling, it’s a blissful place for families to grow up.

“We love the tranquility and privacy, the garden and having pets to be part of the family. Coming home after work or from any travel, you can't help but love the open skies and amazing outlook onto the property,” Debbie says.

“This is a home with a real heart, sense of belonging and wonderful ambience, a special family home exuding understated style, privacy and tranquility. Call me today to experience this Tamahere oasis for yourself - my clients are serious sellers,” says marketing agent Kristen Gould.
