Your dream beach-side dwelling

-

A classic Eastbourne cottage that’s been enhanced for modern living just metres from the beach is for sale for the first time in 32 years.

The three-bedroom dwelling, at 27 Hinau St, was built in the 1910s and last sold in 1992.

It’s on a flat and sunny 304-square metre section in a quiet street with views of beech forest at one end and of the harbour across to the city at the other.

The location evokes the era of classic Kiwi seaside bach settlements, where birdsong and the sound of the sea abound, and is just a short stroll from village shops and cafes.

The cottage is one house back from the beach and has a small, picturesque courtyard at the front with cabbage and pohutukawa trees.

The front door opens to a hallway, leading to an open-plan lounge with a vaulted ceiling and sanded matai floorboards.

On either side of the entrance is a carpeted double-bedroom. One has a bay window seat and a double wardrobe with storage above; the other has painted match-lined walls and a single wardrobe with storage above. A third double-bedroom leads off the lounge.

The modernised living/dining room is filled with light because of its northwest aspect, two skylights, a row of arch windows and French doors that open to a rear deck.

It also has a woodburner and a recessed ceiling that amplifies the spaciousness.

The modern kitchen overlooks the back garden and is fitted with Bosch appliances, including an under-bench oven, induction cooktop with tiled splashback, dishwasher and rangehood.

The large bathroom incorporates laundry space and combines pebble tiling with a shower-over-bath, vanity and toilet.

The dining area opens to a west-facing deck, from which a path links to a north-facing deck at the southern end of the fenced, sheltered garden.

The leafy and private setting has been left natural, with lemon and olive trees mingling with natives.

“Hinau Street is truly one of Eastbourne’s best loved beach streets,” Sinead Diederich, of Harcourts, says. “This home offers Eastbourne beach life in spades!“
