Little Company.

Whakatane-born beauty therapist Stacey Burt’s tricky teenage skin was no match for her mum’s facialist, whose expertise made Stacey want to help others when she grew up. While working at Rotorua’s Polynesian Spa, she became drawn to the minimalism and romanticism of how simple, natural ingredients could be so effective, so after moving to Australia to work in spas and as a trainer for the country’s largest spa network, her next step was to open a holistic skincare clinic, Little Company, in Melbourne. Now she’s set up shop in Byron Bay’s industrial arts precinct.

“Byron Bay was a natural choice for our second location as it aligns so closely with Little Company’s values: back-to-basics, natural, ethical and calming,” she says.

Collaborating with her partner Kent Pomare, along with artist Bobby Clark and her husband, artist/maker Steven Clark of Den Holm, Stacey took a suitably organic approach to the fit-out of the airy, textured space. “We didn’t even have any plans drawn up. It was an evolving process that included plenty of mistakes!”

Apart from nipping into her ethereal new spot for a skin- (and soul-) soothing treatment, Stacey recommends visitors to Byron put a sauna at Nimbus and Co, a class at Creature Yoga and a trip to Minyon Falls on their must-do list – “and you can’t not order the chilli choc chai at Affends”. littlecompany.com.au
