THE DESIGN

The culinary heart of a new home in Karaka Lakes, south of Auckland, this kitchen was designed to suit a professional couple who love to play host. It’s situated within an elongated room that opens onto a large deck, creating an open-plan entertaining area that takes in the view of the lake beyond.

Pocket doors and integrated appliances mean the working zones in this kitchen aren’t apparent at first sight, and to the left is a scullery that can be accessed without interrupting the workflow of the main space.

This is a highly functional kitchen that integrates flawlessly with the material palette and design aesthetic of its surrounds. Intended to also be part of the larger picture, the stained textured veneer, flat-plate stainless steel, cantilevered limestone, matte black benchtops and vertical lines of the timber panelling echo the exterior of the home too and, in turn, the wider environment. •
