THE DESIGN

Industrial and natural materiality reigns in this home, so ‘rawness’ and ‘honesty’ were key words kept top of mind during the design of the kitchen, a welcoming space that encourages family connection and includes a dedicated baking area, with a baking pantry accessed by pocket doors.

Keeping the cabinetry shy of the ceiling celebrates the cedar-to-concrete junction, which is further enhanced with up-lighting. The stainless-steel ventilation cabinet is likewise separated from the warm teak to celebrate the block’s raw beauty. A remotecontrolled retractable steel splashback protects the concrete long-term, and an easy-clean stainless-steel ledge provides the opportunity for personalisation.

The hand-crafted, blackened steel frame with exposed welds is a bold foundation for the island, which also features a rugged granite bench and conveniently houses drinks at the front. •
