“Thank you” seems too small a phrase for saving lives.

But words of encouragement and support from the public, and heartfelt stories from the people they rescue mean the world to the specialist crews of your local rescue helicopter.

Philips Search and Rescue Trust is calling for support by taking to social media on, or before, World Helicopter Day, 19 August.

Everyone who appreciates the work and dedication that goes into running the rescue helicopter service is urged to flood social media with ‘heli love’ by sharing photos, thoughts, stories or anything that expresses what rescue helicopters mean to them.

As New Zealand’s largest rescue helicopter operator, Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on highly-skilled teams of rescue personnel and traumatrained medics to be ready to take action around the clock, 365 days of the year.

They operate rapid response helicopters, bringing life-saving equipment and medics to patients throughout the Central North Island. The service saves lives and improves the chance of survival — the sooner treatment begins, the greater chance of patient recovery.

Having the support of the community is vital in the success of running such a crucial emergency service.

The Trust is a charity which relies on donations from their local community to fund over 50 per cent of their annual operating costs.
