Varied topics for speech contest

-

Dinosaurs, lambs, Michael Jordan, online video games, gymnastics and adoption were topics talked about at St Mary’s School in Foxton during a speech competition held on Friday, September 7.

The participants were Max Zandbergen-Dulver, who spoke about dinosaurs, while Kayla Teal talked about lambs.

Lhucius Dellow focused on Michael Jordan, while Ryan Chambers took on the hot topic of online video games and whether they are good for you.

Ella Parlato had chosen to speak about gymnastics and Apera Tamatea had picked the subject of adoption.

Each speaker was required to deal with the theme: a message to think about.

The judges were Bruce Falloon and Maria Lawrence, who were looking for the message in the speech, the volume of voice variation and projection with pausing and eye contact.

“Overall an interesting contest,” said Falloon.

The results:

Third place went to Ella Parlato, while second place was a deadheat for both Max Zandbergen-Dulver and Ryan Chambers.

The wining speech was from Apera Tamatea.
