Children and teachers from Fanau Pasifika Kindergarten perform at the opening celebrations for their newly refurbished kindergarten and community hub in Levin.
Fanau Pasifika Kindergarten in Levin hosted a special celebration on Wednesday to mark the reopening of their premises after renovations.
The kindergarten has been refurbished into a bright and welcoming place which will be available to be shared by the community.
A large number of people turned out for the celebrations on a beautiful sunny day, surrounded by flowers and Pasifika-themed decorations.
Performances entertained the crowds, including cultural dancing and songs by Levin Intermediate and Fanau Pasifika children.
A special lunch was also served.
Fanua Pasifika is owned by Wha¯ nau Manaaki Kindergartens, which owns and operates more than 80 kindergartens throughout the lower North Island.
Spokeswoman Chanelle Huia-Rutten said the Fanau Pasifika had been renovated in order to operate not only as a kindergarten but as a community space available to all.
The opening had been designed as a celebration of community and an opportunity to announce the opening of a new community hub, she said.
Large central rooms would be suitable for many community activities, and a couple of community groups were already using the space.
