Funeral expo can answer any questions

Delicate matters, all handled with care

-

Harvey Bowler Funeral Services is holding an funeral expo at its premises this Sunday, May 16, from 10.30am until 2.30pm. There will be information available on anything and anyone offering services related to death of a loved one: from florists to casket makers, lawyers to fingerprint jewellery.

You can talk to any of these people about what they do in relation to death and funerals.

The expo will show you what options you have when you lose a loved one, but will also try to get people to be proactive in preparing for when the time does arise.

There will also be a guided tour of their facilities, including the mortuary and the crematorium, should you wish to see those.

“We will explain to you what happens,” said Michael Hill of Harvey Bowler Funeral Services.

Vehicles will be on display as well as different types of caskets and equipment funeral directors use. A grave site with casket lowering equipment will be set up, and a variety of types of memorials will be available.

Liz Hill said people have many questions about what is involved in a funeral.

“People have questions about the livestreaming process for a funeral, for example,” she said.

“TV shows made overseas show a different kind of procedure than we use here in New Zealand and the internet is full of irrelevant information,” said her husband Michael.

“What we want to show is how we here in Horowhenua do a funeral and the expo offers all the relevant information in one place.”

The funeral expo will bring together all information needed, such as the importance making a will, what is a power of attorney and why you need one, what is involved in a sudden death, the need for a death certificate and the prices of burials, cremations and memorials.

“We want to educate people on how important it is to have all the legal stuff ready and ensure everything is in place before a death occurs,” the Hills said.

Anyone over 25 years of age who attends the Funeral Expo can go into the draw for a $5000 voucher for a prearranged funeral. The winner will be drawn under police supervision.
