Principal thanks school for support

Moving on to new Education Ministry role

- Mark Robinson Principal

Kia ora koutou, This will be my last Heads Up as principal of Waiopehu College, as I will be finishing on Friday, August 26. I will be moving to the Ministry of Education in a manager education role, and Guy Reichenbach will become acting principal from August 29.

The board have begun their plans for the appointment of a new principal | tumuaki, with the successful candidate taking up the permanent position from the start of 2023.

Before I launch into some school news and updates, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank our community for the amazing support for me as principal, and for your continued support for everyone at Waiopehu College.

This really is an amazing school and I feel very privileged to have been at the helm for the last seven and a half years. I look forward to keeping up with all the news via future Heads Up articles.

Life at Waiopehu remains busy, and students are focused on their academic studies, as well as a range of other events and activities.

On the sporting front we are now counting down towards the end of the winter sports season and a number of our teams have done extremely well once again.

Our director of sport, Matthew Good, regularly announces results via the Waiopehu Sports Facebook Page and we will produce a full winter sport round up in a future Heads Up.

A number of our teams head to our sports exchange with Naenae College this Thursday, August 25, and after having to cancel this event over the last two years due to Covid, we are all excited to be going ahead this year. In addition, our annuals against Horowhenua College kick off on September 5.

This is always a fabulous week in the sporting calendar of both colleges, and we look forward to lots of community support at these events.

We also have a number of students at Waiopehu who are doing amazing things for their community, none more so than those students involved in our Rotary Interact Club.

The group were represented by Courtney Fitzgibbon, Grace Purches and Kahnyae Rauhihi at a Levin Rotary Club meeting recently, where they gave members an update on the various projects they have run and are planning to run this year.

Students are also busy fundraising for Daffodil Day, as well as Shave for a Cure, which takes place on the last day of term.

Our performing arts students have also been busy, and following on from a successful WHAT Show recently, students will be representing Waiopehu at Barbershop Nationals, where we have both a chorus and quartet competing, along with Dance NZ Made.

With every best wish for the second half of Term 3. Nga¯ mihi
