Levin Garden Club picks winners at spring flower show

-

Levin Garden Club recently had their annual spring flower show with a colourful display of daffodils, freesias, camellias and other flowers emerging in local gardens after this long wet winter.

Aggregate points prize winners were Linda Parker 1st, Catherine Marshall 2nd and Susan Robertson 3rd. Guest Speaker choice was Sue Rankin with a red freesia and Members’ Choice winner was Carol Dyer with a white michaelia.

Members were entertained by invited guest speaker Ana Carlson who, with the help of her illustrated presentation, enlightened us to the fascinating world of succulents and cacti.

Meetings, held on the fourth Wednesday of the month in Life Changers Church, are popular with competitions, sales table and a guest speaker, as are monthly morning teas and visits to private local gardens.

Trips are organised from time to time with the next one in November going to three gardens on the outskirts of Palmerston North. The club’s annual fundraising plant stall in the Levin Mall on Saturday, November 5 is a chance to pick up cut flower bunches, annual and perennial plants at bargain prices.

With much anticipation, the club welcomes special guest speaker Jo McCarroll — editor of the NZ Gardener magazine on Wednesday, October 26. Jo and her team have been busy photographing and interviewing four local gardeners of our region, whose gardens have featured in four editions of the NZ Gardiner this year.

Members of the public are invited to attend.

Tickets are $10 and available from levin.gardenclub@gmail.com, Barbara 06 3682059 or Kirsty 027 5490 478.
