Students reap top results in contests
School now in the ‘business end of the year’
Kia ora koutou, Talofa lava, Greetings everyone Our students have been very busy over recent weeks so here is a bit of an update on what some of them have been doing.
Four of our cycling students (Ollie Kennett, Minnie Collins, Morgan Swartbooi, Peter Batholomew) competed in the NZ Schools National Road Cycling Champions during the holidays. After a debut in competitive riding at the North Island Champs in Cambridge earlier in the year, these students were keen to see how their training and experience measured up against a national field.
Congratulations to these students who gained excellent results at this competition. A huge thank you to Donna Elliott, our teacher in charge, as well as Richard Horn from My Ride Levin and our committed parent helpers who have supported and encouraged these students.
Levi Paxton has a passion for chess, and he is very good at it. Levi recently participated in a number of chess tournaments and has gained some excellent results — first in the Horowhenua/Kapiti Regionals, first in the Manawatu School Pupil Chess Championships, and 19th out
of 58 at the South Island Chess Championships.
Levi is working hard on improving his game so we are excited about what other successes he will achieve. He will be competing in the Secondary Schools Chess Nationals over Labour Weekend.
Our college ball was held last weekend. I congratulate our students on their preparation for this event and for the mature way they presented themselves. I also congratulate their parents who no doubt were called on to support their student as they
prepared for the ball.
My thanks go to our teacher in charge of the ball, Gina Kelly and our social prefect, Brooke Rollinson, as well as their team of helpers. This was a wonderful occasion.
We are now in the “business end of the year” and NCEA exams are only two weeks away. Senior students are busy finishing off assessments and preparing for their external exams. At the same time we are fully into 2023 preparation mode and the expectation for our juniors is that they step up to take on more leadership roles.
