Lamb prices hit by jitters over China
STOCK SALE: Cattle sell strongly despite fears of falling lamb schedules, writes Rose Harding.
Nerves about export markets were reflected in store lamb prices at Stortford Lodge onn October 26. Demand from China has been hurt by their zero-Covid policy and subsequent long lockdowns.
A big yarding of about 3000 good spring lambs was harder to sell than might have been expected as buyers were worried about falling schedules.
Buyer fears were not repeated in the cattle sale as the 800 mostly goodquality offering continued to sell on a strong market.
Buyers were mostly local with others from Taupo, Hamilton and Feilding.
