Congratulations to our senior dux

Literary trial shows great results for Year 10 students

- Guy Reichenbach, Acting principal

Kia ora Koutou talofa lava, greeting everyone. Recently we held our senior prizegiving. A huge congratulations to 2022 Dux Eneti Tofa.

Eneti was also recently honoured at the Horowhenua District Council Civic Awards for his academic achievements.

We wish him all the best as he heads to Canterbury University next year to study physics, maths and astronomy.

Last week we were notified of the results of the new NCEA literacy trials that our Year 10 students have participated in. Given the recent media coverage from other schools, we are delighted with the results our students have achieved.

I’m pleased to let you know that a significant number of our students will go into Year 11 with the literacy credits that will be required by all students in future years. Some of the credit for this must go to the fact that our junior students have literacy as a separate subject as a part of our future focused curriculum.

A group of our junior students had the privilege of visiting Kapiti Island, this was a part of one of our amazing junior courses, Alive Science.

In this course the students learn what it means to be alive, and how organisms ensure that they stay alive. Both staff and students had an incredible day on the Island.

Another fantastic event recently

hosted by the college was Te Ahurei Kapahaka, a regional kapa haka event. It was humbling to see the school students shine in this cultural showcase.

This weekend sees a group of our senior students who have been studying Japanese head off for a three week trip to Japan. We wish them all the best for this cultural learning experience.

The end of the year is drawing closer. The last week of term starting on December 5 is our Junior Activities week. The week sees our Year 9s and Year 10s involved in a range of activities prior to their final day and prizegiving on December 9. The activities include wakeboarding, paintballing, ten pin bowling, The Lido, The Escape Room and orienteering.

The end of the week we will celebrate with our junior prizegiving. We welcome any family members of junior school students to join us at 11am on December 9. The full year’s successes will be celebrated in our school magazine or yearbook which we are expecting to be available from the school office in the last week of term for $30.

As this is my last Heads Up for the year I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and restful holiday season.
