From student to deputy principal role
Toni Kiriona’s service to school ‘significant’
It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Toni Kiriona (Nga¯ i Tahu, Nga¯ ti Apa, Nga¯ ti Kuia, Nga¯ ti Raukawa Te Au ki te Tonga) to the position of deputy principal at Manawatu¯ College.
Toni has worked this year with our senior leadership team on a fixedterm basis as deputy principal, and has made a significant contribution to our students and school in such a short time; so it is great to have her continue on in a permanent role moving forward.
Toni grew up in Foxton and was a past pupil of Manawatu¯ College, after which she pursued tertiary study at Massey University in Palmerston North, completing a Bachelor of Education — Secondary Teaching with majors in physical education/health and social sciences.
Not long after, Toni was appointed at Manawatu¯ College initially as a relief teacher, and then as a permanent teacher.
Since then, over the past 14 years Toni has held a number of management and leadership positions, in both pastoral care and curriculum.
Toni has many strengths, which include her strong connections to mana whenua, a passion for teaching and learning, strong pastoral care
guidance and most importantly ensuring equitable outcomes for all students.
Toni’s service to Manawatu¯ College has been significant over the
years and we look forward to seeing her grow in this role in a way that will have a continued positive impact for our students and school community.
