Exciting times ahead for Levin Cosmopolitan Club

-

In the 1900s a group of local gentlemen were refused permission to play a friendly game of darts in a local hotel. So, a committee became formed, and the Horowhenua County Club was founded, and its first premises were built at the back of the Levin hotel.

As years have gone by, there have been various name changes, including Levin Workingmen’s Club (1916), and Cosmopolitan Club (1929). It took till the 1950s to be given the name we all recognise today, the Levin Cosmopolitan Club. In the 1970s it moved location to where it is today, bordering Oxford, Ward, Seddon, and Rina Street’s serving over 2000 members.

Over the last two years it has had a revamp and it now has been modernised and brought up to the 2020s and is bright and fresh, with modern facilities.

It’s full steam ahead for the club

If you think something like Covid is going to stop things happening at the Levin Cosmopolitan Club, then you will be in for a surprise.

There are changes in the wind, and the new CEO of two months, Susie Wilson is all for adding fresh and exciting ideas.

Susie, who is originally from New Zealand, has spent the last 20 years working overseas in Melbourne and Los Angeles running her own Finishing School. Now she is back in New Zealand ready to take on new challenges, namely the Levin Cosmopolitan Club.

She is loving being back in New Zealand and revelling in her new position, in a great community with wonderful staff who are as eager as she is to see the club bursting at the seams!

While Covid caused the demise of many clubs, the Levin Cosmopolitan club is still actively seeking new members, younger, with families and working hard to make the club inviting to the community.

It is a great venue to meet up with friends and family and have some quality time in each others company.

The committee and staff are friendly and accommodating and welcome club members from other areas passing through.

The menu has been revamped to make it more user friendly, there is a courtesy van, great pool tables and if you are into darts this is the place!

There are rooms available to hold meetings, seminars, and a great place for networking.

The club also participates in various tournaments around the country, so if you are a keen fisherman bowler, pool, or darts player, you may enjoy weekends away competing against other clubs.

The club has just finished hosting a North Island outdoors bowl competition where over 250 players descended on Levin. Great also for the local businesses.

Something special also happens on a Wednesday every fortnight. A group of older members join for an afternoon of card making with proceeds to a local hospice or chosen charity.

So, when thinking about how to enjoy your spare time, or make new friends, an evening out with a nice meal, laughter, fun and being part of the community, why not take yourself and family to the Levin Cosmopolitan Club. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome!
