Rude awakening

In this modern technological age, with multiple means of immediate communication, I wonder why it is necessary for the Plimmerton Volunteer Fire Brigade to still be using that dreadful siren. Especially at 4am as happened today, April 11.

It surely should be relegated to the scrapheap except in cases of dire emergency, ie, tsunami warning etc.
