Drivers warned of roadworks delays
Motorists travelling on State Highway 1 through Paekakariki should expect delays due to road resurfacing works between Mackays Crossing and Beach Rd.
The work involves ripping out the old road overnight and replacing it with a new, safer surface that has better resilience to damage and improved skid resistance. It will continue until May.
New Zealand Transport Agency Wellington operations manager Mark Owen has urged drivers to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly during peak time.
‘‘We are doing the work at night to minimise delays but while this approach helps to reduce delays, it does not eliminate them. We’re urging people to allow an extra half hour for their travel during peak hour while work is completed.’’ Reduced speed limits will remain in place during the day to minimise damage to the new surface which is vulnerable until it cures, says Mr Owen.
