Sweet treats on sale at bank

- By KRIS DANDO

The Porirua branch of Westpac was doing its bit for the annual Chopper Appeal last week, much to customers’ delight.

The bank is the major sponsor of the rescue helicopter service, which relies on donations and fundraising to operate. When the Porirua branch began contacting potential local sponsors they did not have to go far, with the city’s Pak ’n Save offering dozens of packets of biscuits and pavlovas to sell.

By lunchtime on Thursday Westpac had nearly sold out, with staff estimating at least $450 would be raised. Along with buying the goodies, customers were also donating generously into containers around the bank.

The appeal runs through to the end of this month, with every cent raised going directly to the chopper service. You can donate at the branch, online at chopperappeal.co.nz or text ‘‘chopper’’ to 3181 to make a $3 donation.
