Teams out of contest

-

The Porirua basin has no representatives left in the Chatham Cup after Tawa and Western Suburbs both lost in the first round on Saturday.

Wests, who won the knockout tournament in 2007 and made the final the following season, lost 3-1 to Lower Hutt side Stop Out at Hutt Park.

The Porirua club sit midtable in the Central League, while their opponents are one division below and are eighth in the standings.

But the gulf between the two meant nothing as Stop Out made the most of the play in the first half, going ahead to a cracker from outside the box and then a corner that went directly in. Both sides finished the match with 10 men.

At Redwood, Upper Hutt City made Tawa’s average start to the league season worse, knocking them out of the Cup with a 2- 0 victory.

It’s back to Central League play for both sides on Saturday, with Wests travelling to Bell Park to take on Lower Hutt, while Tawa host Petone at Redwood. Both games are slated for a 2.30pm kickoff.
